Assynt,
Home is where the heart is and this wee area of Sutherland is one with family connections. It is here my parents spent their honeymoon in the late 60s, cosied up in a tent on our rugged coastline in a camping site in the small community of Clachtoll. It is also here that me and my brother spent a considerable chunk of our formulative childhood years exploring and playing. Children quickly became adults and yet somehow we still came back to the glens and lochs of Assynt to play but this time with cameras and tripods.
This last time, as are the last few visits is bitter sweet honey to the soul, the pain of losing our father is still echoing strong in us and coming to a place so deeply intertwined with memories of our father is both intensely healing and yet bitterly painful at the same time.
Assynt is a location that is hauntingly beautiful, full of nature and history and you can almost sense the memories imbued in the landscape. It's also a great place to make your own memories.
