The serenity in this case belies the upheaval and tragedy for this is a 14th-17th Century cemetery in Prague's Jewish Quarter otherwise known as Josefov and the history witnessed here has been at times shameful and torrid. Even the areas eventual preservation turns your stomach when you learn Hitler himself ordered its preservation as a 'Museum of an Extinct Race'.
The Cemetery and surrounding synagogues are in the care of the Jewish Museum in Prague and we required tickets for access.
